OUR CLIENT is a renowned property investment and development company with a portfolio spanning globally who have continued to grow and diversify the commercial and residential properties they own. The company are looking to expand their solid accounting team and they have now solely instructed us to help them recruit a Service Charge Accountant to join them. The role will mainly focus on the preparation of annual service charge budgets, completion of year end closure and billing of balancing service charges to tenants, as well as the preparation of year end service charge reconciliations including invoice collation, analysis of income and expenditure, journals and accruals.


THE ROLE: Reporting to the Head of finance , the candidate will assume responsibility for the management of the portfolio of service chargeable properties and will be expected to ensure that year end reconciliations are completed according to RICS regulations. The broader duties will include:

  • Managing a portfolio of service chargeable properties.
  • Preparing quarterly analysis of service charges in required format.
  • Preparing annual service charge budgets, apportionments and on accounts calculation.
  • Reviewing leases to ensure that correct apportionments are applied.
  • Preparing year end service charge reconciliations including invoice collation, analysis of income and expenditure, journals and accruals.
  • Liaison with Asset Managers, Building Managers, External Management Agents.
  • Reviewing and coding invoices according to programme.
  • Completing year end closure and billing of balancing service charges to tenants.
  • Monitoring cost on a regular basis and compare against budgets.
  • Reconciling demised utility recharges based on collated meter readings and post journals to credit service charge liability.
  • Responding to tenant queries in a timely manner.
  • Assisting with General ledger maintenance.
  • Undertaking any other ad hoc administrative tasks as required.

THE PERSON: The right candidate is expected to have at least two years' Service Charge accounting experience within a commercial property environment and will have previous experience in handling property based accountancy packages, Excel, Word and Outlook. Knowledge of property management systems is essential eg Yardi, QUBE , BLUEBOX , TRAMPS or similar. You should be an excellent communicator able to work closely with a small but hard-working team.
