Service Charge Accountant – Real Estate – Part or full-time-London

OUR CLIENT is an established propco and family office with decades of specialism within the real estate sector across the majority of asset classes and act as owner, developer and asset /investment manager. They are now looking for a Service Charge Accountant to join their finance team in North London. The role can equally be done on a full or part-time (3-4 days a week) basis.

THE ROLE: Reporting to Head of Finance and Head of Property, you will be responsible for:

  • Regular reconciliation of service charge bank accounts.
  • Identifying transfers between Rent and Service Charge bank accounts.
  • Providing property managers with reports to enable service charge and major works budgets to be prepared.
  • Entering budgets into property management system.
  • Producing annual service charge financial statements.
  • Liaising with commercial surveyors and block managers to review and approve statements.
  • Liaising with external auditors where required.
  • Ensuring that on account charges and period-end residual charges / credits are applied to landlord.
  • Carrying out year-end close in property management system.
  • Reviewing, recording and reporting progress on freeholder loans.

THE PERSON: To apply, you must have experience in real estate – ideally commercial or at least mixed-use, and ideally be familiar with concepts of major works charge funds, reserve funds, sinking funds etc. It would be very helpful if you are familiar with statutory timetables governing residential and commercial service charge accounting as well as RICS Professional Code governing commercial service charge accounting. You are expected to be a confident user of property management systems such as MRI QUBE, YARDI or similar and be proficient user of Excel. It is also highly desirable you have experience with double-entry bookkeeping.
