London will see 13,100 more student beds developed by 2015, as strong appetite for the student housing market continues.

Some 3,000 beds are on track to be delivered this year, 6,300 in 2014 and 3,800 in 2015, CBRE has calculated.

Developments in Camden and Islington account for 35% of the pipeline.

After the student accommodation schemes are created, 80,000 students in London will still be left in the private rented sector, highlighting the shortfall of purpose-built stock.

Jo Winchester, head of student advisory at CBRE, said: "Lambeth, which currently only has 436 direct-let bedspaces, will have a further 2,500, with Vauxhall in particular emerging as a new student location. Suitable locations close to campus facilities and transport links will become more important than ever as competition increases over the next few years."

Schemes given approval in the first quarter of 2012, include Urbanest's 1,093-bed project on Westminster Bridge Road in Waterloo, SE1.

During the same period, UK turnover in the sector reached £685m- 42% up on the same period in 2012 (£481m).
