Construction suffered its third consecutive month of declining output last month, the Markit/CIPS construction purchasing managers’ index shows.

The index stood at 47.2 in March, below the 47.5 that was forecast. However, the performance was up from a 40-month low of 46.8. Housebuilding, which grew at the fastest rate since May 2012, provided a silver lining.
