The number of properties being listed with an asking price of £2m or more has more than doubled since the Conservative party’s election victory, an analysis by GetAgent of four websites – OnTheMarket, Prime Location, Rightmove and Zoopla – has shown.

Some 639 such properties were listed in the week of 14 May, up from 246 in the week of 9 April. Total new listings, irrespective of price, jumped 62% to 8,269. The number of homes listed at £500,000 or below jumped 66% to 4,028.

GetAgent’s co-founder, Colby Short, interpreted the increase as demonstrating the impact the threat of a mansion tax had been having on high-value properties.
